South Barrett Reliever
Project Overview
The South Barrett Reliever is a road realignment project to give drivers an alternate route around Barrett Parkway, one of the busiest corridors in Town Center Community. By facilitating interest in these alternative transportation options, the Reliever is expected to decrease traffic during peak hours by 22%.
Phase I
The South Barrett Reliever Phase I began at Cobb Parkway/US 41, ran east to Greers Chapel Road and then north along Greers Chapel to Barrett Parkway. This project was the initial phase of a four-phase project to provide an alternate route to the east side of Interstate 75. The road was widened to a four-lane divided roadway with a planted median. Bike lanes and sidewalks are also present for this phase of the project to promote alternative modes of transportation.

Overall Cost: $5 Million
(Includes TCCID, state, local, and federal funding)
Completed 2010
Phase II
The intersection redesign of Barrett Lakes Boulevard at Shiloh Valley Drive is the second phase of a critical road realignment and pedestrian safety improvement project. The project begins to provide a southern alternative route for vehicular travel along Barrett Parkway, while encouraging pedestrian-level connections from the surrounding residential areas through the district. The inclusion of a roundabout design assists with providing an increase in traffic flow and a decrease in potential crash points.

Phase III
Phase III of the South Barrett Reliever begins at the terminus of Phase II along Roberts Court (previously Shiloh Valley Drive). The road alignment will continue eastward over I-75 and the managed lanes system, leading into a roundabout and continuing north along Roberts Court to Barrett Parkway. This phase will complete an alternate route of travel and reduce congestion along Barrett Parkway by more than 22%. In addition, this phase will complete the southern portion of the bike/pedestrian loop for the district.
